PM-USP Central Sector Scholarship 2026: Eligibility, Benefits and Online Application Process

PM-USP Central Sector Scholarship (CSSS) 2026-27: You did well in Class 12 and joined a regular college course. Now fees, books and travel cost money every month, and your family earns only a little. This central scholarship is made for students like you. Every year, up to 82,000 new students get it, and half of these seats are kept for girls.

But good marks alone are not enough. The rule is about percentile, not percentage. Your marks must be in the top 20% of students who passed in your stream from your board. So even 80% marks can miss the cut if many students scored higher. A distance, correspondence or diploma course is also left out. Your college checks every form first, so a wrong claim will not pass.

Below you will find the yearly amount for each course, who can apply, the papers you need, the 2026-27 dates for renewal and verification, and the six steps on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Every rule here comes from the Ministry of Education scheme guidelines on NSP, checked on 31 October 2026.

What is the Central Sector Scholarship?

It is a Ministry of Education scholarship for bright students from low-income families, now run under PM-USP (Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan). It is not a loan, so you never pay it back.

Key Points

  • You get ₹12,000 a year in graduation and ₹20,000 a year in PG or the last years of long courses.
  • Taking any other scholarship or fee waiver, even from your state, cancels this one.

It is also not a one-time payment. To get it again each year, you need at least 50% in your yearly exam, 75% attendance and a renewal form on NSP.

Central Sector Scholarship Amount

How much you get depends on your course and your year of study. We have put every level in the table below, so you can find yours quickly:

Course Years Covered Amount per Year
Graduation First 3 years ₹12,000
Post-Graduation Full PG course ₹20,000
5-Year Integrated Course 4th and 5th year ₹20,000
B.Tech or B.E. 1st to 3rd year ₹12,000
B.Tech or B.E. 4th year ₹20,000

The money comes by DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) into a savings account in your own name.
